My First Stall at The Pineapple Pub

I was so excited to have the opportunity to hold a stall at The Pineapple Pub in Kentish Town on Sunday.  It's a new bi-weekly market set up in the pub by Saoirse who has heaps of experience in the vintage selling market area.

It's the first time I have held a stall anywhere and I was looking forward to gaining some experience. To be honest a stall was never really part of the plan, originally I just wanted to sell online from home as it fit in with looking after my toddler but when I was emailed by Phil who asked if I was up for holding a stall I thought why not!

The market is usually in a room upstairs but due to quite a few stalls I ended up being downstairs right near the bar and entrance. Perfect place to be as I was in the path everyone walked by to get to the back of the pub and upstairs to see the rest of the stalls.

I did wonder if I was missing out on all the action upstairs but I had a few friends visit and it generally felt like an afternoon in the pub (minus the alcohol). Sold a few items and made a profit so all in all it was great to do! I definitely think I will do this more often.

You can check out the Pineapple Pub's Facebook page for the market here

The next market is on the 23rd October, do pop by :)

The Vintage Rag Mag

I'm very excited to have been able to subscribe to The Vintage Rag Mag!

For those who don't know, the Rag Mag is a magazine that you can find at fairs, events, shops and the like...Oh and it's free! You can read it online but they have just started subscriptions so it's great for people like me who do not live anywhere close to be able to pick up the mag and prefer to read it in the flesh rather than online. They are new and are up to their 3rd issue.

What the Rag Mag is about (taken from website) :
THE VINTAGE RAG MAG WAS FOUNDED IN JUNE 2011 BY LUCY MCKEE. A VINTAGE TRADER TRYING TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT VINTAGE FASHION, STYLING AND LIFESTYLE. THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE VINTAGE RAG MAG LAUNCHED IN AUGUST 2011 AVAILABLE AS A FREE MAGAZINE DISTRIBUTED AT VINTAGE FAIRS AND EVENTS, SHOPS, CAFES AND UNIVERSITIES. ALTHOUGH THE VINTAGE RAG MAG DECIDED TO TAKE IT A STEP FURTHER AND MAKE THE MAGAZINE AVAILABLE TO VIEW AND DOWNLOAD ONLINE FOR THOSE WHO COULDN'T PICK UP A COPY IN THEIR LOCAL AREA.

THE VINTAGE RAG MAG HAS BEEN CREATED TO CELEBRATE THE ICONIC TRENDS, STYLES AND CLOTHING OVER THE YEARS WHICH ARE FOREVER THE STARTING BLOCK FOR OUR CURRENT TRENDS. WHETHER IT IS VINTAGE CLOTHING, JEWELLERY, SOMETHING FOR THE HOME OR PURELY VINTAGE LIFESTYLE THAT INTERESTS YOU WE AIM TO BRING YOU A PIECE OF EVERYTHING IN OUR MONTHLY MAGAZINE.

You can subscribe and pay £5 for 3 months or £10 for 6 months. If you subscribe now you will get the 1st and 2nd issue with the current issue.

I haven't had a good look through the issues yet, teething toddler put stops to that today but hopefully will be able to have a good read tomorrow, will report back :)

On another note I have my very first stall at the Pineapple Pub in Kentish Town tomorrow (Sunday). It's a new bi-weekly market and I am so excited to give it a go. I am fairly new to this selling malarkey so am looking forward to gaining some experience!

So if anyone is around the Kentish Town area please do pop by and say hello :)

London Fashion Week

So who else was excited about LFW?? So many designers, so many amazing collections!

These are my top picks for each day.

DAY 1
My favourite for the first day (and of the week) was Orla Kiely. Her inspiration "Old summer holiday snaps from the forties and fifties and Clare McCardell American sportswear prints inspired by vintage Vogue fashion illustrations."
Cute pastel shaded summery pieces. Vintage style dresses, skirts and blouses. Definitely my kinda thang!

DAY 2
Vivienne Westwood Red Label
Queen Viv steals the show with amazing sculptural suits, cardigan dress, cute tee's, plaids and signature Grecian/drape dresses. The music and makeup were great! You must watch the show .

DAY 3
Acne
Love the Moroccan inspiration with this collection. We see billowing shapes, double denim. Lots of blues, whites and oranges. This collection has been described as feeling like a kids dressing up box. Well everyone loves being a kid don't they?!

DAY 4
Burberry Prorsum
I am not normally a fan of Burberry but this collection is ticking all the boxes. Although this could have been mistaken for A/W collection judging by the colours.  There were lot's of plum, mustard, warm greens and blues. Tulip and pencil high waisted skirts, crop jackets and belted macs.

DAY 5
Roksanda Ilincic
It's the first time I have heard of Roksanda Llincic and I absolutely adore this collection. Blues, oranges and greens...all my favourite colours! Sexy classic dresses and skirts with a touch of vintage style. High waisted shorts and oversized jackets with bell bottom arms.

DAY 6
A day for the men! My pick for the day is Oliver Spencer.
Inspiration behind the collection is  ''French Mod style, colour and jersey'. Sophisticated casuals. Soft tailored trousers. Colours as well as neutrals so something for all. If you are going to get some trews, get them from  Oliver Spencer he knows how to make a trouser!

What caught my eye is up and coming jewellery designer Victoria Barker of Jerboa Jewellery.  Amazing theatrical collars, chunky necklaces, big cuffs and shoulder grazing earrings. A must have for anyone wanting to make a statement. You can buy some of these amazing pieces at my home away from home ASOSMarketplace.

Watch the catwalk  from Beyond Retro (and maybe purchase some vintage while you're there) and check out the fabulous makeup done by Kori Hunter and her team at  The Future Vintage

So how was London Fashion Week for you?

My Favourite Vintage Piece

My love of vintage developed a couple of years ago.  Since then I have bought a few pieces but due to a tight budget I haven't been able to build a decent wardrobe up...yet! I would like to have an amazing collection that I could pass on.

I seem to have gravitated towards American Vintage and have been religiously checking American Ebay for items. There have been some amazing pieces and after spotting something that I must have (we all know that feeling when you must have something!) I ended up setting my alarm for 4am to bid on a dress, this unfortunately was before I found out about sniping.  Still it was worth it as I won! Funny how it's always "I won" rather than "I bought" on Ebay. You don't end up feeling as guilty because you have won it...well I don't anyway ;)

The dress is amazing I have to say. 60's, maxi, olive shift top with a crochet skirt and olive underlay. Then it has a hot pink velvet tie belt.  I love to think of a story behind the pieces. This dress I would say was a  custom made bridesmaid or prom dress. How much fun would an American prom be in the 60's!  Unfortunately I just have not had the chance to wear it yet.  Mixed reasons, scared it will get ruined by my toddler putting his mucky hands on it and not really having anywhere to wear it. Hopefully I will get an invite to something fabulous to showcase it (hint hint) !

Has anyone gone to great lengths to buy something? I would love to hear about or see pictures of your favourite vintage pieces..

On another note I would just like to congratulate Mandy for winning my first ever give away! Hope you love the choker Mandy!

Ciao for now :)

Autumn/Winter Trends

To view pictures please stop by my old blog here. Sorry I seem to have lost them so couldn't add to the blog.

You have probably all seen the A/W trends out on the catwalk and aren't they amazing? I love them all!

So this season 70's will be playing a huge game in trends and we will also be seeing Plunging Necklines (best get those scarfs out ladies) Polka Dots, Preppy head to toe, Masculine shoes, Metallics, Tuxedo Jackets, Pleats, Chunky Jumpers, Buttons, and my favourite The Mullet Dress! Party at the back and business at the front, could you ask for more? Perfect  cosy shades too, Mustard, Khaki, Metallics and Burnt hues such as Orange and Red.

For bags we will be seeing Snakeskin, Crocodile Skin, Leopord Print, Cowhind and a lot of textured totes. My must have for this season is Chole's Blue 'Ethel' . So need that bag! If anyone comes across a similar vintage find, direct it over to me please ;)

Accessories have seen Chokers make a come back, Arm Cuffs and Leather Harness anyone?

My favourite item at the moment is the dress or skirt. In my opinion this will be the season for Midi's! The Maxi will still be going strong but if you want to be on trend Midi is the way to go. I have just bought a fabulous maroon 70's vintage pleated midi for £13, yes £13! I was just eyeing up something similar from Warehouse for £30 so this was such a bargain. I wore it at the weekend with a black bandeau top, wide black belt, short beige cardi and dusky pink  Mary Janes.

Metallics and Chunky jumpers are a must have this season and being me I have sourced a few amazing vintage pieces for you lovelies to admire or purchase if you so wish ;)

To check out the items clink on link to view..
70's Mustard flower print jumper
80's Grey Flower print jumper
80's Metallic blouse/jacket
Metallic Jacket (ok not so vintage)
Midi Skirt

For a chance to win the gorgeous vintage choker above come like my Facebook page or follow me on Twitter and put comment below with your twitter/fb name and I'll randomly pick a winner next weekend.

I know what trends I'll be wearing but what will you lovely lot be rocking this A/W? Lot's of vintage I hope :)  I would love to see how fabulous everyone looks so send me a picture of your favourite A/W outfit and I will publish it in the next blog post.

Look forward to seeing some pictures (and stealing some styling tips)

HGL xx
