MAC Viva Glam Nicki Minaj

Um sorry got a bit picture happy...

So many cherries have been popped recently and MAC I have to say was my favourite!

If you don't know, MAC bring out Viva Glam once a year (I think) with a celebrity and donate all the sales to the AIDS Foundation, which of course is an awesome thing to do.  This year we see Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin. The latter bringing out a lip conditioner. As I am aware they go on general sale March 1st.

I saw a few swatches online and was quite liking the striking colour so when a friend had a code to buy this early with free delivery how could I not pass it up?! Plus it's all for charidy mate..

This is a yellow toned pink in satin formula which I am to be believed one of MAC's dryer formulas. It is quite a coraly pink in the bullet but oh so different on the lips! Very bright and 'barbie' esq. When I first tried it yesterday I applied straight from the bullet (with no makeup on I might add) and eek I wasn't too sure if I liked it! It is indeed slightly drying so today I used a touch of my Sleek Pout Polish underneath which helped a lot and I guess just any old balm would do the job. I also used a lip brush to apply so the colour wasn't as intense. I am impressed with the wear, it lasted a good few hours before I needed to apply, and this was after eating and excessive tea drinking (blinking toddler and his recent no sleep routine).

It's been a roller coaster of emotions since I received it, did I look daft? Was it too bright? Hmm I think I like it but could I get away with it? Did I care if I couldn't? Should I just wear it anyway and sod what the locals thought?

Well I have decided and I bloody love it!!

So who will be racing to buy this lovely once released?

Urban Decay: Naked 1 Verses Naked 2

Yep I know, every man and his dog has reviewed these palettes BUT I won a Naked 2 baby! The lovely Alice from Super Gorgeous held a giveaway on her blog a little while ago and unbelievably I got picked as the winner! So happy and thank you so much Alice! If you haven't already read her blog, please do so, you'll love it!

On first look you'd think they were pretty much exactly the same palette. But get closer and realise that actually there is a difference.

Due to the mass usage of Naked 1 at Christmas I haven't really touched it since haha! But I have taken time and tested out Naked 2 for a few weeks now, I wanted to figure out if there was much difference and if I would prefer either. I have really like the second palette and think the colours suit my skin tone more.

I hadn't realised till I swatched the colours on my arms the other day that N2 colours were not as pigmented as the 1st palette! The colours are slightly lighter but when swatching they just weren't showing very well and took a few swipes to get some colour. I love both packaging, the first does collect fluff which is a pain for someone like me who prefers everything in pristine condition, something that is hard to keep going with a toddler around. In regards to the fall out, both palettes are the same, too much in my eyes which is a slight annoyance.

The wear seems the same, using the UD Primer Potion definitely prolongs the colour (see my review here) But when it come's to the colours N2 is definitely cooler toned compared to the warmer shades of the first. I really love the double ended brush from N2, the crease brush side works a treat.

The lipgloss you receive with N2 is a lovely shade and smells very very minty!  Gorgeous colour and not too sticky ( I hate that in a gloss). I don't feel there was much need in adding a gloss to an eye palette, probably because I don't really wear them and I think they should have just stuck with the primer.

I would say there is no need to own both palettes (unless you really wanted to of course) and I think it would be down to personally preference and skin tone to make a decision as to which one you would go for. Me, I think N2's cool toned shades suit me more than the 1st palette, even though they just aren't as pigmented. Still I won't be giving up N1 for love nor money ;)

Sleek Pout Polish in Raspberry Rhapsody

My Sleek cherry has been popped! I've probably said this before but I very rarely venture into Superdrug and so have never taken any notice of Sleek. I have heard in recent times that they are a good brand, great pigmented eyeshadows and the like. I went into Superdrug last week and as I walked past the stand I noticed a bright pink palette. As I am addicted to bright pinks at the moment I had to stop and take a look. They had a collection of 3 blush palettes and so I picked up one (review to come), noticed the bright pink pout polish and had to have that too!

I picked up Raspberry Rhapsody which in the pot is bright fuschia but on the lips is a light cool pink. I love the smell of this and it feels moisturising on the lips.I don't tend to pick up lipsticks in the summer and I am not really a fan of glosses due to stickiness and I find them too 'glossy' but never really go for tinted balms as they just don't seem to have the colour pay off. Even though it doesn't apply the same colour as what's in the pot it still is super pigmented. This is perfect for me and I can see this being a staple for the summer as and this will be great to add a flash of colour. I may just have to pick up a few other shades...

Outfit Wish List #4

Half Tint Sunnies

Fur Stole

Uniqlo Tee

631 The Ramp Trews

Vintage Bag

Jeffrey Campbell Lita's

Happy Friday! I need these boots like I've never needed anything in my life! I know I wouldn't be able to walk in them but I would look at them adoringly everyday, that's OK right? The sun has been shinning this week which means it's sunglasses weather! I have quite the collection growing and in my eye's (pun intended) the bigger the better! I need to try and find similar sunnies as the ones pictured over here as the shipping is more than what they cost, any ideas?

The fur stole is beautiful, I wouldn't wear real fur by the way but a faux fur replica would go beautifully with this outfit. Eeek how gorgeous is that bag?

I have 10% off my store till Sunday, use code HGL10. You can view by the link 'shop' up the top. Happy shopping! xx

Nails:'Matte' Emerald City

I'm not too sure how I feel about matte polishes. At first I hated the look but after trying this I think I like..well this colour anyway. I received this polish from a Facebook page called Beauty Box Swaps where everyone swaps makeup they no longer want, I have mentioned this page before and it's a great concept. We had a mass Secret Valentine swap with around 40 of us and this was one of the items in my gorgeous box! I am still dying to know who it was!!

This polish has a very liquidly formula. You don't want too much on your brush as it would just seep everywhere. Dried fairly quickly and it's the first time I haven't used my beloved Seche Vite as I thought it would change the Matte effect. To me it doesn't seem completely matte as there is still quite a shine/shimmer as you can see in the picture (maybe this is why I like it?) Anyway I think I am intrigued to try more...

Jolie Box: February's Edition

So we have waited 2 months for this box as they skipped January's to organise the transition from Boudoir Prive to Jolie Box. I will probably be in the minority as I love this months!

Nice and Natural from top to toe...

Taaj - Himalaya Micellar Water (100ml) £17.61 for 500ml

This product is an antioxidant and tonic makeup remover that will revitalise and purify the skin.
It smells lovely, very lemony. Reminds me of real lemonade. Comes out just a bit thick than water and feels refreshing on the skin, no residue when I tested on my hand. Really looking forward to try this out tonight!

Jane Iredale - Cheek and Lip Stain (Teeny Tiny) £15 for Full Size

Just kissed lip and cheek stain in Forever Pink is just AMAZING! The colour adapts to your mood and temperature. The colour that came out on me is gorgeous, a lovely brightish pink then it was a peachy/pink when I applied a bit later. I can see myself buying the full size product as it would be great for summer.

Macadamia - Deep Repair Masque  (30ml) £29.25 for 500ml

I have been wanting to try this for ages! Just haven't got round to buying it yet so really happy to see it in the box. They had this as a full size product?!

Kimia - Rejuvenating Facial System (1ml & 3ml) £69 for the set 30ml &100ml

These products sound interesting,  I am not new to face oils bit have never tried anything that has a product to compliment it. You spray the hydra-activator after using the oil to nourish and heal the skin. Sounds good!

This is my least favourite product. Mainly because I have millions of hand creams at the moment! The smell reminds me of a baby care product, I think anyway. Non greasy and moisturising. Good size for your hand  bag and that is where it will be going.

There were two boxes with the other one containing a 3ml sachet of RMK cleansing oil. To be honest I wouldn't have been too happy with that as an oil in a sachet can only end badly. Not sure it was worth two months wait but really I think of it as an extra tenner in my pocket last month! Not keen on the bag it came in, rather cheapy but I guess it's better than the shredded paper and I may just find a use for it. I am rather happy this month and look forward to next months!

What are your thoughts?

Estee Lauder Day Wear BB Cream Review

I managed to bag a 5ml sample from Latest in Beauty for a whopping £1.50!
I adore their double wear maximum coverage foundation (see review here) so was excited to give this a whirl.

Thickish formula when dispersed, easy to buff into the skin and felt very light on. It was actually a really good colour match too (I used 01 Light). The smell is just divine, a light fresh plant smell. Wish I could think of what it reminded me off. I seriously keep opening the lid to have a good sniff!

It is unfortunately just not enough coverage for my skin at the moment. I still needed lot's of concealer and my red rashy cheeks shone through. I will keep this sample and give it another go near summer when my skin is usually a bit better (here's hoping). The wear was pretty impressive, I applied around 12pm and when I went to wash it off at 6pm (full of cold and NEEDED my makeup off!) it was still pretty much intact, this was after setting it with powder.

I think this would be a great product if you had goodish skin and was looking for a bit more coverage than a tinted moisturiser.

Have you tried this?

Glossy Box: February's Edition

The Fashion Week Edition

I am assuming that GB wanted to do a Fashion Week box which is why we had the Valentines box in January. Sort of makes sense now. I accidently ended up with two boxes as I forgot to cancel one sub! So as they are different I'll show you both and will try and keep it short.

DuWop - Venom Gloss in Buttercup (5ml) £16 for 10.4ml
Yummy smell! It feels slightly tacky on the lips at first with a light tingly sensation then it becomes more 'stingy' Not painful but a very obvious feeling and something you'd probably get used too. Very sheer colour on the lips and a touch plumper. Not very noticeable though.

Dr Bronner - Magic Liquid Soap (Full size 59m)  £1.99
I have this in the cupboard but unscented, this is a light citrus smell. Not sure what it's been used it for but there is only a tiny bit left so this will replace it.  I think this is an all purpose soap but I need to look into it a bit more.

Paul Mitchell - Super Skinny Relaxing Balm (25ml) £13.90 for 200ml and Quick Slip (25ml) £11.99 for 150ml
Paul Mitchell reminds me of my hairdressing days! These products have a lovely fresh smell. The balm is to smooth and control so I am guessing it is similar to oils like Moroccan?! The quick slip is conditioning style cream. Looking forward to trying these out!

BM Beauty - Mineral Eyeshadow (1g each) £7 for 2g
I received Wolf Howl (blue) and Storm Cloud (grey/green). I am not a huge fan of loose products as they are a bit messy, love the colours so will try these. They are quite a big size as they are and I don't think you'd need 2g!

Como Shambhala - Body Lotion and Body Wash (50ml each) £20 for 300ml
Both these have Eucalyptus, Geranium, Lavender and Peppermint. I am not overly keen on the smell, too much for me and I am a bit over body washes! Still I think these would make a lovely gift so I will keep them for that.

Impress - Press on Manicure (Full Size) £8.99
False nails are not something I need or would use. I wouldn't mind having this product in my box if it wasn't such a hideous design! Good god, neon, mutli coloured strips with hearts! If it was a decent usable colour/design I could at least give them to someone.

So between the two boxes there are a few products I will be trying, not overly exciting but new products all the same, except those truly awful false nails!

Glossy Box has changed the colour of the description cards and put back the logo inside of the box...bit of a change going on? And hmm intriguing...

What was in your box?

The Big Skin Care Mystery

I guess most of you in the UK would have heard about The Big Skincare Mystery. It's a clever ploy I must say, a few people are claiming they know what brand is it. I hate not being in the know so please tell me!
For those this is new too, there has been a huge campaign in which a Facebook page has been set up and you can request a sample to test. They are not indulging in which brand they are which makes it even more intriguing to find out. I think a few bloggers received bigger samples and I first saw this on Makeup Savvy's Blog.

So the sample..

I received a sachet of a wash and mask cleanser with 3ml of product in it.  As a wash you massage onto the face and rinse thoroughly and for best results use twice daily. I decided to use it as a mask. Apply to wet  face and leave for 3 minutes, rinse off thoroughly.

The product has a lovely light smell, at first I thought Avocado but maybe that was because of the picture....
The product is of medium consistently and applied smoothly. There wasn't really and tightness after rinsing and only a slight drying of the skin which I expect really. I am full of cold so and this was lovely and refreshing which was needed I can tell ya!

I am trying to avoid products with SLS in at the moment and am not in the habit of checking the ingredients before buying/using. This was no exception and of course reading the list of ingredients it does contain SLS. Oh well.

My skin was oddly sticky after, not tacky, but putting my hand on my face it kinda stuck and pulled my skin when I moved my hand away.  Wasn't lasting but definitely unusual.
I then applied my Origins Super Spot Remover on a couple of blemishes. Boy that stung like a bitch! I have applied Origins pretty much every day for 3/4 weeks and have never had such a reaction. Gawd knows what is in the wash/mask as and hour and half later it is still tingling. I can safely say I will be giving this product a wide berth once it's released! I am still dying to know who it is of course...

Who else has tried the mystery product?

Topshop Lipstick Innocent

My wardrobe used to 90% full of Topshop clothes. I haven't really ventured in there since having my boy a few years ago, no idea why really. And so I haven't had a chance to try their makeup collection till I popped in there this past Saturday after attending TOWIB. The less said about that the better at the moment as there was way too much drama!

I picked up this lovely blue toned lippy called Innocent and a gorgeous pastel blue nail polish which will be perfect for spring!

I wasn't too sure if it would be too light for my skin tone but it suited me well and I just adore the colour! It would definitely look fabulous on darker skin tones too and a tan in summer will set this off lovely. These shades of pink are my new obsession I can tell ya! The formula is moisturising and easy to apply, great wear too and just after I applied I brushed my teeth without it disappearing (wasn't my intention to btw). I love the  packaging, the simple design and the metal tube that is different to many other lipsticks I have had. I think I may have to purchase a few other colours really, but they do come with a slightly expensive £8 price tag.

What are your thoughts on Topshop cosmetics?
